Overview:
This position is vital in the Behavioral Health Care delivery system. - - The behavioral health CMA works as part of a team in assisting Behavioral Health Care providers, such as psychiatrists, counselors, registered nurses, in providing supportive care to patients and monitoring of comorbid conditions. -The behavioral health CMA will provide supportive care for people with mental and emotional conditions or disabilities. The behavioral health CMA participates in facilitating patient care, management of patient information, team communication, and demonstration of conduct and activities using patient centered medical home principles, policies and procedures is critical. Supports the vision and the mission of the Clinic at all times.

Responsibilities:
- -Patient relationship: Greets and welcomes the Behavioral Wellness patient in a pleasant, respectful, culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. Assure patient questions are answered in a positive and cordial manner. Assures the patient has an understanding of communications. Communicates patient's problem/complaint to the provider, psychiatrist, or counselor. Reinforces to the patients the importance of keeping appointments or communicating changes in their appointments. Asks the required questions for a proper Behavioral Health assessment. -Management of patients care: Takes patient's medication history. Reviews patient medications as per protocols. Initiates notes for the counselors, psychiatrist, PCP, nurse on call or others to alert information regarding a patient. Assists the providers as requested. May collect and process pertinent patient information, utilizing the preliminary wellness assessment. Assists with coordination of follow up of appointments and medication refills as requested. - - -Manages patient information: Takes and documents patient's history and vital signs. Performs pre-visit chart reviews for required health indicators, labs pertinent to Behavior Wellness, etc. Under the direction of the provider; will obtain, review and place report results in charts. Makes list of anticipated needs for patients (labs, etc.) Aid in basic patient evaluation and care, teaching and encouraging basic life skills. Carries out physicians orders, such as the outgoing prescription for dispensation of medication, and external referral to treatment. Provides behavioral emergency assistance to providers such as recognition and reporting of patient safety issues. Assures the patient information and record is completed timely and is current. Adheres to all HIPAA regulations in and outside of the Clinic. Communicates patient information as requested to enhance patient services. -Team communication: Actively participates in department team huddles to assure maximum appointments, gaps in the day, and works on same day access. Meets with the team to ensure that the provider's productivity and schedule is reviewed and populated throughout the day to facilitate access to care. Works with unit team members as well as other clinic personnel to ensure a smooth patient flow. Communicates specific patient needs and/or population management information. -Demonstration of safe and professional conduct: Maintains a friendly and safe environment for self and others. Response to emergency situations as per training. Refrains from texting and speaking on the cell phone while on duty. Refrains from informal communication with patients and others. Fully participates in the performance improvement and follows all the Clinic policies and procedures. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with Clinic leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Submits required documentation in a timely manner (credentialing requirements, license renewals, certifications, CNE attendance, etc.). -

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Minimum of 1 year medical assistant work experience in a health care setting. Current certification as a registered or certified medical assistant required. Must be computer literate. Must be current with BLS/CPR. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required. - -This position requires an initial N95 mask fit testing and annual test fitting thereafter unless there is a significant change during the year that requires retesting prior to the annual fit testing. Ability to fully comply with the enhanced infection control requirements of the clinic.
